JEWISH FAITH DISCOVERY SESSION
We are pleased to offer Jewish Faith Discovery Sessions to all schools in Islington.
School tours of the Islington Synagogue are rewarding experiences for all who take part.
Many school children benefit from a wide-ranging Religious Studies curriculum, in which they investigate the central elements of all the major world religions. To bring the theory alive, we very much enjoy showing school groups around the Islington Synagogue.
The tour generally lasts for 45 minutes, and includes an introduction to Judaism, the main features of the Synagogue and an explanation of many of the traditions that we abide by. The duration of the tour is flexible and we can modify the content or focus according to the needs of the visiting school party.
During this visit, students get an overview of Jewish practice, but more importantly they are able to ask any questions about the life of Jewish people. This valuable time raises awareness and allows better understanding of other faiths, in effect leading to more open minded and tolerant views of people with different lifestyles.
Chabad Islington is a local charity focused on making Judaism accessible and open to anyone in the borough.
This session can also be run as an end of term class discussion to Jewish studies in Religious Education, or during an assembly.
Some of the local schools we have visited in the past:
Highbury Grove School
St Aloysius College
Prior Weston Primary School
St Andrew's Primary School
Clerkenwell Parochial Primary School
Montem Primary School
Hanover Primary School
